Smart cars

Smart originally started as a joint venture between Swatch (Watches) and Daimler-Benz and is today a division of Daimler based in Germany, specializing in microcars and superminis. The smart cars however are build in Hambach, France. Despite earning many prizes for forward thinking and design, the Smart cars have never been profitable for Daimler. In 2006 the original Smart Car company revealed that it made almost 4 billion Euros losses and was liquidated with its operations absorbed into the Mercedes-Benz automobile group.
